Minister for Defence Materiel (Australia)
In the Government of Australia, the Minister for Defence Materiel, or Minister of Supply, was a ministerial portfolio that existed variously between 1939 and 2013. The Minister appointed was responsible for oversight of defence procurement, financial management, project and sustainment management, materiel engineering, and materiel logistics. The minister aimed to ensure that the Australian Defence Force was equipped and supplied with the requirements as identified and approved by Government. The minister administered the portfolio through the Defence Materiel Organisation, part of the Department of Defence.
While ultimately responsible to the Commonwealth of Australia and the Parliament, in practical terms, the minister reported to the Minister for Defence.
Since September 2013, the responsibilities of the Minister for Defence Materiel have been assumed by the Minister for Defence and the Assistant Minister for Defence.
